Applications are invited from enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals with specialist experience in haematology, blood transfusion or biochemistry for a full time Band 6 post to work in our modern and well-equipped Multi-disciplinary Laboratory at Chorley Hospital., Our Multilab is based at Chorley District General Hospital and provides Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry analyses. The site provides specialist Oncology and Orthopaedic services along with routine services. Our major equipment comprises Sysmex analysers in the Haematology section and the Roche Pure C303/ E402 combined Chemistry and Immunoassay modules in Biochemistry. Automation in Transfusion is provided by state of the art Diamed IH1000 analysers. The Trust has remote access Haemobank fridges which allows remote electronic issue of blood units. You will be based at Chorley Hospital, however you will be required to work across sites at both Chorley and Preston hospitals. The role can sometimes be quite physical, with moderate moving and handling requirements, therefore you will need to be able to move around the laboratory and assist in the movement of loads. You will be expected to work a 37.5 hr/ week (average) shift rota pattern that includes daytime, evenings, overnight, weekends and Bank Holidays once you have achieved competence during a satisfactory probationary period, for which appropriate AFC enhancements will be paid.

  • Please Note to be recruited straight to Band 6, applicants will be a HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist with a Specialist Portfolio (or equivalent, e.g. IBMS discipline specific log book) in Haematology/ Blood Transfusion/ Biochemistry. Applicants with experience but without the Specialist Portfolio/ equivalent are welcome to apply; after initial recruitment to Band 5 level, an applicant without the specialist portfolio will move to Band 6 once allocated a position on the out of hours rota. Please note that progression beyond the second point of the Band 6 scale will require a completed Specialist Portfolio.
