Full Job Description

The Cardiovascular directorate at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is a large, tertiary centre for acute referrals, providing highly specialised treatments to patients of South East London, Surrey, Sussex and Kent. The three departments of Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery and Vascular Surgery have 132 beds at the St Thomas' hub site, 5 cardiac catheter laboratories, 4 dedicated operating theatres and a vascular hybrid facility with integrated imaging. We are a leader for open, endovascular and hybrid treatment of patients with complex Vascular pathology. The complex endovascular program performs on average 80 cases /year offering all types of repairs including FEVAR, BEVAR, TEVAR, and arch branch. The open programme performs 20 thoracic/thoracoabdominal open repairs per year on average in addition to a well-established program for management of aortic infections as part of a Vascular Infection MDT dedicated service.

The directorate would like to appoint one proactive and highly-motivated individual to join the complex tertiary aortic service provided by the directorate. The successful candidate will be a member of the Aortic Multidisciplinary Team and as such will help manage all aspects of the pathway. They will be exposed to a wide variety of Aortic procedures, both open and endovascular. This job is for a candidate who is extensively trained in vascular surgery (post - CCT or equivalent) and is looking for further advanced training in all aspects of complex aortic work in a busy tertiary centre prior to looking for a consultant post. The details and focus of the fellowship will be tailored to the candidates needs and experience with a potential for either more complex open or endovascular focus.

Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals joined Guy's and St Thomas' in February 2021 and is the largest specialist heart and lung centre in the UK and among the largest in Europe. We provide treatment for people with heart and lung disease, including rare and complex conditions, offering some of the most sophisticated treatment that is available anywhere in the world., Although the applicant will be expected to predominantly support the complex aortic service, they will also be exposed to the full range of complex tertiary services provided by the department through support of emergency work. All Senior Specialist Clinical Fellows within the department will undertake a rolling rota covering inpatients, outpatients, as-well as providing on-call cover to the specialties during the day and night. The applicant is also expected to demonstrate interest in and lead a research project in the field of aortic disease as well as actively participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.
