Special Needs Care Assistant

Woodlands School would like all candidates to answer specific questions for the personal statement section. For reference, here is a preview of the questions/headings:
1. Can you demonstrate a good level of written and spoken English? (tested as part of the interview process)
2. Describe any experience you have of working with or supporting children in learning, play or other setting. What did you do and what was your role?
3. Children learn and develop at different rates. Please give an example of how you have supported someone who needed extra help or needed something explained in a different way.
4. Please give an example of a time when you had to think about the safety or wellbeing of a child or another person. What did you do?
5. Please give an example of how you have encouraged a child to take part in an activity, play or learning.
6. Please give an example of how you have dealt with a child who was upset, frustrated or behaving in a difficult way. What did you do?
7. Give an example of when you have worked as part of a team. What was your role and how did you help the team?
8. Can you tell us about any experience you have of supporting a child or another person with their personal care or everyday needs?
9. What do you think is important when supporting children in a school? Please give examples from your experience where possible.
10. Do you have a strong ability to communicate effectively with both adults and children? Please give an example of a time when you had to communicate with someone who was upset, confused or finding something difficult. How did you approach this?

We are looking for adaptable, energetic and motivated people to work at our outstanding special needs school. In this vital role you will be supporting our children with learning difficulties through eating, play times and with their personal care. Working hours are 11.30 am - 1.30 pm Monday through Friday. We welcome applicants from all communities.

All staff are offered specialist training and support. Relevant experience is desirable but the right attitude and work skills are essential. A strong ability to communicate effectively with both children and adults is essential. Staff benefit from established career progression routes and training in education. School runs free weekly exercise and wellbeing sessions for staff.
