Software Engineering Internship (Placement Year)

This role has been designed as 'Hybrid' with a requirement that you will work on average 2 days per week from an HPE office., Join HPE for a 13-month placement beginning in July 2027.

As a Software Engineering Intern at HPE, you'll gain real-world experience by contributing to business-critical projects and working with cutting-edge technologies. You'll take ownership of meaningful work, learn from experienced leaders, and connect with other interns. The programme also offers professional development, networking opportunities, volunteering, and event planning., You will build practical experience across the software development lifecycle by contributing to the team's day-to-day engineering work. Your responsibilities will include:

Developing new features

Identifying, fixing and documenting bugs

Participating in peer code reviews

Contributing to the team's knowledge base

Analyzing and designing software and configuration changes

You will work closely with QA engineers, DevOps engineers, software developers and architects, gaining insight into how different disciplines collaborate to deliver business-critical software.

You will be joining a cohort of interns. Alongside your technical work you will have the opportunity to:

You should currently be pursuing a bachelor's or integrated master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, software development or another IT-related field, with your course including a placement year.

An interest in one or more of the following areas is desirable: computer architecture; concurrent or multithreaded programming; embedded systems; Linux; networks and communications; cloud microservice development; or operating systems.

You must be eligible to work in the UK and available to begin the 13-month placement in early July 2027.

Technologies and experience

Experience with any of the following programming languages is desirable: assembly or another language used for embedded-system development; C, C# or C++; Java; Python; or Go.
