They will commission and create high quality, entertaining and informative videos daily, and own the production pipeline from ideation to publication. KEY TASKS/OBJECTIVES:

  • Produce entertaining, educational and creative vertical videos that meet New Scientist's standards of accuracy and storytelling
  • In collaboration with our editorial team commission, write, edit and develop stories to be told as short-form vertical video

Demonstrable experience of producing, filming and editing high-quality, short-form videos for a social-first audience, preferably with experience of working in a busy newsroom
  • Expert user of Adobe Premiere or equivalent video editing software
  • Experience of camera operation, lighting and green screen with an interest in learning more advanced skills
  • Some presenting, voiceover or on-camera reporting experience
  • Understanding of, and ability to leverage, audience data to inform video decisions
  • A degree or other qualification in a science, technology, engineering or maths subject is not required, but an interest in these subjects is essential
  • SKILLS AND BEHAVIOURS:
  • Strong editorial judgement and clear understanding of video production
  • Appreciation for quality visual journalism and a passion for science and technology
  • Able to work collaboratively to build relationships across the business and externally
  • Organised, creative self-starter able to deliver content to deadline, under pressure
  • Flexible and adaptive
