Full Job Description

Under the direction of the Sixth Form Manager, the post holder will provide academic and pastoral support to students within the Sixth Form, with key responsibilities focused on improving attainment, achievement, attendance, behaviour, and attitudes towards learning. Additionally, the role involves assisting the Sixth Form Team in addressing academic and pastoral concerns. The post holder will also be required to provide general administrative support as needed. Over time, the role has evolved to include greater responsibility in pastoral care, student supervision, admissions support, behaviour management, and liaison with external stakeholders. __________________________________________________ Key Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Sixth Form Manager, the post holder will:

  • Work with students to ensure that all post-16 students successfully remain at St Benedict's and complete their courses.
  • Support the Sixth Form Manager in developing and implementing strategies to increase the overall ALPS score under the guidance of the Director of Sixth Form.
  • Establish constructive relationships and communicate with other professionals, including outside agencies, to support the achievement and progress of students.
  • Act as a point of first contact for parents.
  • Provide a focal point for student enquiries and concerns, offering support on attendance, pastoral, behavioural, and confidence-related issues.
  • Be aware of and comply with national and local policies and procedures relating to child protection and all aspects of safeguarding children.
  • Act on results analysis to ensure issues are actioned/reported to the Progress Leader.
  • Provide administrative and organisational support to the Sixth Form Manager.
  • Assist the Director of Sixth Form in planning and organising events, including parents' information meetings and attending parents' evenings.
  • Support on Year 13 results day, including distributing results and guiding students through clearing and other related activities.
  • Proactively deal with pastoral and behavioural issues in a professional and effective manner, ensuring a safe and orderly environment.
  • Regularly supervise students within Sixth Form study areas, during breaks, and at lunchtime to maintain an orderly environment and provide immediate support for any emerging pastoral or behavioural concerns.
  • Act as the first point of contact for students experiencing personal, academic, or behavioural difficulties, providing initial guidance and directing them to appropriate support where necessary.
  • Assist in the organisation and coordination of student admissions, including processing applications, conducting interviews, and handling enrolment procedures.
  • Manage student attendance and punctuality by identifying and addressing issues, liaising with parents where necessary, and ensuring necessary interventions are in place.
  • Support students in building self-confidence and resilience through structured mentoring sessions, either one-to-one or in small groups.
  • Attend school trips, university visits, assemblies, and special events to offer support and ensure smooth coordination.
  • Enforce uniform policies and behavioural expectations, ensuring that students meet the required standards and taking appropriate action where necessary.
  • Liaise sensitively and effectively with parents/carers to ensure students receive the most appropriate support and guidance.
  • Monitor student progress and record achievements, ensuring accurate records are maintained and reviewed.
  • Assist in planning and delivering Sixth Form transition events, ensuring new students are effectively supported and integrated.
  • Provide administrative assistance in organising careers appointments, work placements, and visiting speaker sessions.
  • Support the general pastoral and academic operations of the Sixth Form, contributing to the overall ethos and aims of the College.
  • Provide first aid support as required.
  • __________________________________________________ General Administrative Duties:
  • Handle telephone and face-to-face enquiries related to Sixth Form administration.
  • Distribute standard letters and communications to parents and students.
  • Maintain and manage email correspondence.
  • Set up and monitor filing systems.
  • Take minutes of meetings and type letters and reports.
  • Organise and compile student reports and tutorial packs.
  • Provide employment reference information for students.
  • Assist in the organisation of College visits, placements, and speaker events.
  • Support the coordination of student reviews and progress monitoring.
  • Organise Sixth Form-related calendar events and activities.
  • Manage student administration processes, including issuing documentation for tax credits, gym memberships, etc.
  • Input and monitor attendance data on Arbor, identifying and addressing absenteeism.
  • Contact parents regarding non-attendance and ensure follow-up actions are taken.
  • Photocopy, catalogue, and distribute necessary documents and resources.
  • Operate relevant ICT software (e.g., Word, Excel, databases, spreadsheets, Internet).
  • Maintain stock and supplies, ensuring efficient distribution.
  • Adhere to policies regarding child protection, health and safety, security, confidentiality, and data protection, reporting concerns as necessary.
  • Promote inclusivity and equal opportunities for all students.
  • Establish constructive relationships and communicate effectively with external agencies and professionals.
  • Attend and participate in regular meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Provide support for the wider Sixth Form team, taking on additional tasks as required to maintain the efficient running of the area.
