Full Job Description
We are seeking a reliable, skilled, and proactive Site Officer to ensure the security, maintenance, health and safety, and smooth daily operation of a busy secondary academy campus in Slough. Working closely with the Facilities Manager, the successful candidate will carry out essential site inspections, routine repairs, contractor management, and caretaking duties to provide a safe, secure, and well-maintained learning environment for staff and pupils.
THE SCHOOL
Set on a modern, well-equipped campus featuring multi-story teaching blocks, specialist sports halls, science laboratories, and extensive outdoor playing fields, this vibrant secondary academy supports over 1,200 pupils aged 11-18. As an inclusive, community-focused school, it places high priority on creating a welcoming and clean physical environment. The premises team operates as a cohesive, hands-on unit dedicated to upholding high operational standards across all facilities, grounds, and building systems.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Site Security & Access Control: Manage campus opening and locking procedures, operate intruder and fire alarm systems, and monitor site security to safeguard pupils, staff, and premises.
Building Maintenance & Repairs: Perform general DIY, minor plumbing, painting, carpentry, and basic electrical repairs, ensuring building fixtures and fittings remain in good working order.
Health & Safety Compliance: Conduct routine health and safety checks, including water hygiene (legionella monitoring), fire alarm testing, emergency lighting checks, and playground/equipment inspections.
Grounds & Cleaning Supervision: Oversee daily cleaning operations, assist with litter clearance, coordinate seasonal grounds maintenance, and handle waste disposal across the school grounds.
Lettings & Event Setup: Prepare assembly halls, sports facilities, and meeting rooms for daily school activities, evening community lettings, parent evenings, and examination periods.
Qualifications: Relevant trade or facilities maintenance qualifications (e.g., City & Guilds in DIY/Building Maintenance, IOSH Managing Safely, or basic COSHH and manual handling certifications) are highly desirable.
Experience: Proven experience in caretaking, site management, facilities support, or handyperson roles, ideally within an educational, public sector, or commercial setting.
Skills: Strong practical DIY and maintenance skills, clear knowledge of health and safety regulations, good physical fitness for active daily tasks, a proactive attitude, and the ability to work flexibly.
