Full Job Description
We're looking for someone to join our friendly team on an fixed term contract of 3 months over the summer when we're very busy, to be our 'go to' person wherever and whenever extra help is needed. This isn't a desk-based role, as Duty Manager you'll be on your feet, moving around this beautiful estate on a regular basis. No two days are the same. We welcome coach parties, school and community groups, run various events (which includes a 5-week run of outdoor theatre) as well as daily tours, trails and additional programming. You'll be part of the team providing an excellent visitor experience to everyone. The hours advertised for this role is reflective of 12 months, however the actual hours you'll be required to work for this role are 487. The amount of hours you work each month may vary, however your salary will be paid in equal instalments over the term of your contract. On average, you'll work 37.5 hours per week but again, this will be flexible depending on operational demand. What it's like to work here Reporting into our Property Operations Manager, you'll work alongside our hard-working staff and volunteer team ensuring the safe and efficient daily operation of the property. Every year over 150,000 people visit Sutton Hoo to see a place often referred to as the first page of English history. This Anglo-Saxon burial site is home to a series of burial mounds including the famous Mound One ship burial. What you'll be doing Working closely with the Property Operations Manager and the property team, you'll be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the day-to-day visitor operation across all areas of the site including supporting our wonderful team of volunteers. You'll help to ensure high standards of property presentation and that communications with our visitors are clear and consistent.
We'd love to hear from you if you're:
- experienced in the practical aspects of managing a house and garden site
- proactive and focused on solutions, mindful of the operational needs of a site
- highly organised and skilled at planning, with a good eye for detail
- adept at working to multiple deadlines and managing your own workload
- a skilled communicator who can forge strong relationships, both externally and internally
- experience of resolving visitor queries and issues management
- understanding of Health & Safety and accessibility compliance
- experience with support and supervision of volunteers
