Full Job Description

As a Sign Services & Traffic Management Operative you will provide an excellent delivery of installs and removals for all types of temporary traffic management signage for the Highway Delivery workforce. Your work will also support the provision of all highway maintenance service areas, in construction, drainage, forestry, street lighting activities where positive traffic management is required to direct the flow of traffic safely. You will be responsible for safe temporary traffic management provisions for all the sites worked on. You may be required to support a call-out rota to cover evening, weekend and public holiday emergencies (exclusion will apply to employees aged under 21) This role is a "Safety Critical Post" and, consequently, subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with our policies and procedures. A copy of our Substance Misuse Policy and Procedure is available upon request.

  • Have the following qualifications; New Roads and Street works Act (NRSWA) (Operative) and a valid Driving Licence. It would be ideal (but not essential), if you also have Traffic Management qualifications NHSS12 A/B, NHSS12D M1/M2/M3 or have a valid Large Goods Vehicle Licence and CPC Trained with current DQC Card.
  • OR you have demonstrable evidence of the skills and experience as outlined in the Person specification, together with a commitment to attain the essential qualifications.
  • Experience of working in a highways or civil engineering environment.
  • Experience of the safe installation of Temporary Traffic Management, including road closures and diversions and the installation, maintenance and removal of traffic control systems in a safe manner. Acting as banksman/ signaller [look out] for other drivers.
  • Extensive knowledge of safe working practices when using plant and machinery, construction Health, Safety and Environmental requirements, Chapter 8 Traffic Management Regulations and safe working procedures and the code of Practice for Safety at Roadworks.
  • Be able and willing to work with everyone in the team. You are self-motivated and well organised with the ability to use your own initiative in planning and prioritising workload.
  • Be able to respond confidently to customers & colleagues with understanding & diplomacy whilst maintaining an objective & professional stance and give customers the correct information and keep them up to date with regular contact.
  • Be able to remain calm & positive in challenging circumstances, you can react quickly when the work environment requires, to make safety related changes to temporary traffic management, independently of supervision and you can engage with proposals constructively & rigorously to help agree a way forward
