Full Job Description
- We are looking for a SHEQ Compliance Specialist based in Middlesborough who will provide support to our SHE and Quality Leads to ensuring that systems, records, audits, investigations and actions are organised, accurate, traceable and progressed to completion. The role supports the effective operation of the Quality, Health and Safety, and Environmental Management Systems; helps maintain readiness for internal, external and client assurance; and enables Quality and Health & Safety Leads to focus their time on professional, technical and risk-based work. Main responsibilities Management systems and compliance support + Maintain the Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental Management Systems in line with business needs, applicable legal and other requirements, and relevant standards. + Support system updates, system compliance, document control and quality assurance activities, ensuring information remains current, controlled and readily retrievable. + Maintain SHEQ registers, records and compliance documentation, identifying gaps and following up with responsible owners. + Monitor relevant changes to SHEQ legislation, regulations and standards, and support the SHEQ team in assessing and communicating resulting actions. + Prepare and update SHEQ assessments, management plans, evidence packs and reports for internal, client and certification purposes. Audit Management and action closure + Schedule internal, external, client and certification audit schedules, including meeting arrangements, agendas, evidence requests and supporting records. + Prepare audit evidence packs and maintain accurate audit records to demonstrate conformity with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 requirements. + Maintain the internal audit action tracker, chase outstanding evidence and monitor actions against agreed due dates. + Review submitted evidence for completeness and refer completed evidence to the relevant Quality or Health & Safety Lead for technical review and formal closure. + Escalate overdue, incomplete or at-risk audit and compliance actions in accordance with agreed governance arrangements. + Identify and support opportunities for management-system and process improvement arising from audits, trends and recurring issues. Investigations, non-conformances and corrective actions + Provide investigation support for incidents, non-conformances, customer complaints and other SHEQ events, including collating evidence, arranging meetings and compiling supporting records. + Maintain complete and accurate investigation files, reports and action logs, ensuring records are available for assurance and audit purposes. + Progress corrective-action follow-up, monitor progress and escalate overdue or incomplete actions to the relevant Lead. + Support client feedback processes, including surveys, commendations and complaints, and maintain the associated records. Supplier compliance + Maintain supplier compliance records, including relevant insurances, certifications and other required evidence. + Obtain missing or renewed supplier evidence and accurately update the relevant registers and systems. + Escalate overdue, incomplete or non-compliant supplier records to Procurement for review and decision. Reporting, meetings and action tracking + Maintain action trackers and provide consistent follow-up with action owners to support timely completion and effective governance. + Prepare meeting agendas, data, papers and presentations; take accurate minutes; maintain action logs; and distribute outputs promptly. + Attend operational and SHEQ meetings where required to provide specialist compliance support. + Collate, validate and analyse SHEQ data to support routine reporting, trend identification, management review and continual improvement. + Create and issue accurate SHEQ reports for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring content is relevant, clear and issued to the required timetable. Training, communication and awareness + Arrange SHEQ training schedules, invitations and attendance, and maintain accurate training and competency records. + Support the development and distribution of SHEQ communications, briefings, training materials and operational updates. + Liaise with branch and department managers, clients, suppliers and external stakeholders to gather and share SHEQ-related information. + Represent and uphold the company's core values in all interactions and support a positive culture of safety, health, environmental stewardship, quality and ethical behaviour. Policy, procedure and continual improvement support + Assist in drafting, reviewing and updating SHEQ policies, procedures, risk assessments, work instructions and safe systems of work, ensuring approved documents are controlled and communicated. + Support SHEQ initiatives, including sustainability, compliance and continual-improvement projects. + Provide reliable day-to-day compliance that allows Quality and Health & Safety Leads to prioritise technical assurance, professional judgement, coaching and higher-risk activities.

+ Proven SHEQ compliance support experience, ideally a minimum of two years within a SHEQ, construction, engineering, manufacturing or similarly regulated environment. + Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint, with confidence in maintaining trackers, registers and management information. + Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 is highly desirable. + Knowledge of SHEQ terminology, management systems, audit processes, investigations or corrective-action management is advantageous. + Experience of document control, evidence collation, records management and supporting audit activity is desirable. Skills and behaviours + Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to follow up and appropriately escalate incomplete or overdue actions. + A high level of accuracy, attention to detail and respect for confidentiality. + Effective organisation and prioritisation, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and maintain clear audit trails. + A proactive, dependable and solutions-focused approach, with the ability to adapt in a dynamic working environment. + Ability to work collaboratively across functions while maintaining professional challenge and compliance standards.
