Full Job Description
Are you looking to develop your legal knowledge in a fast-paced and varied role? This role provides just that, with this post being responsible for the day-to-day management of Broxbourne Council and East Herts District Council's litigation service.
You'll handle a varied and often complex caseload, represent the Council in County Court and Magistrate Court proceedings, and play a key role in ensuring we deliver a responsive, trusted and customer focused in-house legal service.
The diversity of casework includes housing possessions, anti-social behaviour, debt recovery, commercial property litigations, fly-tipping, licensing matters, planning enforcement and various other matters.
This role will provide you with excellent flexibility and the opportunity to work part of the week from home. Although, the role is full-time, part-time working on a job share basis will also be considered.
You will have post-qualification experience in litigation work, with excellent knowledge of court proceedings, strong advocacy skills. You will also have the ability to communicate legal issues clearly and confidently, both in writing and verbally.
The successful applicant will be comfortable with managing complex workloads with exceptional efficiency, supporting colleagues, building rapport with a wide variety of people and working in a fast-paced environment.
Experience of working within a local government environment is desirable but not essential. What matters is conscientiousness, work-ethic, self-motivation, sound judgement and professionalism.
The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in fluent English is essential in this post.
This role requires a disclosure and barring service check as it is working with children or
vulnerable clients.
We have adopted the core values of Teamwork, Innovation, Effectiveness and Respect (TIER).
The Council's benefits package includes generous leave entitlement, a full training and development programme, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and free membership to the Council's local leisure centres, which includes free access to gyms, swimming pools, fitness classes, racket sport sessions, a health suite and a range of generous discounts across other leisure and culture services.
