Full Job Description
Purpose: To lead a team of support workers within Coppice Side Court, Swadlincote to delivery quality care and support to the people we support in order to achieve their individual goals and to lead full and productive lives as valued member of their community
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership
To be responsible for the day to day running of the support services operated with responsibility for the continuation of the service 24 hours a day with actual hours of work arranged according to the needs of the service
With support from the line manager, ensure the services provided adhere to Real Life Options values, 'ordinary life' principles, CQC and Supporting People requirements, acting as a role-model for the staff team
Undertake specified, managerial responsibilities which contribute to the overall management of the support services provided
Ensure that the requirements and responsibilities as detailed within the Health and Safety Policy are adhered to at all times, promoting a safe working and living environment for both staff and service users
Ensure agreed appropriate levels of support are provided to individuals. Organise staff rotas to make the best use of resources and maintenance of appropriate cover
Handle complaints in line with organisational policy, seeking and following advice from your line manager
Contribute to effective budgetary management of the service
Where required ensure that maintenance is carried out in respect of property, household or service vehicle
Follow in-service and organisational record-keeping procedures which comply with the Data Protection Act 1998. Submit all reports and returns to Head Office in a timely manner
To complete in house induction of new staff and continued on the job coaching promoting and supporting their skills development through regular observation, supervision and appraisal
Service Delivery
Be involved in the assessment of service users and potential service users
Play a key role in the assessment of the service user and development of a Person Centred Plan, facilitating participation of all workers in implementation of the agreed plan
Implement care procedures and plans which support the service user in a manner which respects their dignity and promotes development of their independence and quality of life
Identify and implement strategies to involve service users in the selection of new staff
Where required as part of the support plan, assist the service user in all aspects of their personal care
As appropriate, provide support and guidance to the service user in keeping their home clean and tidy which may include carrying out household tasks
Support the service user to develop their social and personal skills providing encouragement and support both in their home and in the community
Encourage and support the service user to develop meaningful leisure interests and activities
Ensure medication procedures are in place and service users are supported as appropriately
Liaise with families, social workers and other professionals on behalf of the service user and the service and participate in case conference/reviews
Where appropriate assist the service user with their routine contact with GP's dentist and ensure all relevant health records are up to date
Where appropriate and in consultation with the advocate and Registered Manager set up and monitor routines which promote the efficient management of the service
Liaise with external agencies concerning the maintenance of the property
Where appropriate support the service user whilst on their chosen holiday
Managerial
With the support of your line manager ensure management practices adhere with equal opportunities at all times
Participate in the recruitment and selection of staff in line with the establishment for the service and in the recruitment of a bank of relief workers
Ensure that the induction and on the job training of new staff to the service promoting and supporting the skills development of all staff is completed
Undertake regular supervision of staff team
Monitor and manage attendance and absence raising concerns directly to your line manager who will implement the Attendance Management Policy consistently
Ensure all staff are familiar with organisational policies and procedures which are implemented throughout all aspects of service provision
Support regular ream meetings, facilitating good communication and feedback within the staff team
Ensure that the work practice of all workers enable the service user to be involved in daily and longer term decisions
Ensure staff are familiar with and understand emergency and security procedures
Identify any training needs that support staff might require
Other Responsibilities
Where agreed, support service users to control their personal monies with proper accounting of expenditure
Adhere to organisational policies, procedures and work practices
Work within a rota which may include day, evening and weekends and sleep-in duties
Attend and participate within team meetings and service user reviews
Provide flexible cover for colleagues in the event of holidays, sickness and emergencies
Participate in and induction programme and ongoing training as required
Receive regular supervision to increase knowledge, identify training needs, evaluate work performance, aid and assess professional development
