Full Job Description
Surrey County Council maintains around 3,000 miles of roads, and with increasing demands and tighter budgets, keeping our network safe, reliable and well-managed has never been more important. We're looking for a talented Senior Works Communications Officer to join our high-performing Works Communications Team, helping to deliver clear, effective communications about planned works across the county. In this role, you will develop timely and accessible messaging for residents, stakeholders and councillors, using a range of channels to help Surrey's 1.1 million residents plan ahead and minimise disruption caused by roadworks. If you are proactive, organised and motivated by keeping people informed and moving smoothly, we would welcome your application. You will play an important role in overseeing the team's output, working closely with the Works Communications Team Leader to ensure resources are used effectively and projects are delivered in line with agreed KPIs. This includes supervising external contractors to maintain high-quality communications in accordance with service level agreements, while planning and delivering messaging that explains works programmes clearly and accurately. The role also involves managing and interpreting detailed works information, keeping project data up to date and accessible, and working closely with highways engineers to ensure communications reflect live and evolving schemes. Alongside producing a wide range of resident-facing content, including letters, emails, road signage and social media, you will support the smooth flow of information across customer services, operational teams, councillors and community stakeholders. You will be comfortable managing multiple projects with changing deadlines, working independently to solve problems, and handling a high volume of enquiries by developing clear and timely responses in collaboration with colleagues, partners and stakeholders., 1. Describe a communications project you have managed where your communication skills directly led to a better, more successful outcome. 2. Give examples where you have managed a project with multiple service providers and stakeholders and how you managed the flow of information to keep the project on time. Also give examples of how you dealt with changing deadlines 4. Describe a time you had to communicate complex or technical information to a non-technical audience. Explain your approach and the communications channels you used.
- An experienced team player who can deliver projects at pace with the ability to supervise and support junior team members to ensure projects are delivered on time and communications are accurate and effective.
- A background in customer communications or project management with an eye for detail and a strong work ethic.

- Confidence working in a fast-paced environment and picking things up quickly.
- Experience using CRM and digital systems to manage and progress resident enquiries.
- The communication skills to work collaboratively with busy technical teams and external stakeholders including local councillors.
