The Division is very well-provided with facilities and equipment for biomedical research. We have seen significant investment in our imaging capabilities over the past few years and now have three confocal microscopes, a deconvolution imaging system and a Zeiss fluorescence macroscope. Our most recent addition is a Lumicks CTRAP allowing single molecule manipulation and visualisation. We also have a transmission electron microscope, a variable mode fluorescent imager and three flow cytometers, including one dedicated cell sorter. A small histology suite includes an Excelsior AS tissue processor, Histocore embedding station, 2 microtomes, a cryostat and a vibratome. Additional equipment and facilities include fluorescent and absorbance plate readers, an Agilent Bioanalyzer, real time PCR machines, as well as various HPLC and protein purification systems. Further facilities comprise of insectaries, a unit dedicated to physiological research, radiation sources and a radioisotope
facility, and tissue culture laboratories, including facilities to work with pathogens at containment category level III.
We are looking for an individual who can lead and motivate our technical team, managing their deployment across our research activities. You will be able to support our staff and students to help them achieve their research goals, while at the same time promoting good laboratory practice and ensuring safety compliance. We will expect you to build and maintain good relationships with equipment suppliers and engineers to ensure that our scientific instruments and facilities are kept up-to-date and in good repair.
In return the Division can offer you a friendly environment that strongly supports the individual needs of each employee and which actively promotes a healthy work-life balance. The Faculty is committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies and has held a Silver Athena SWAN award since 2014 in recognition of its good employment practice undertaken to address gender equality in higher education and research.
