Full Job Description
We are looking for a committed, knowledgeable, and compassionate Senior Care Assistant to join our dedicated team in Jarrow. In this vital role, you will support the Nurse in Charge and take an active lead in overseeing a team of Care Assistants to ensure that every resident receives the highest possible standard of person-centred care. As a Senior Care Assistant, you will be responsible for providing hands-on support with daily living activities, encouraging independence, and safeguarding the dignity and well-being of each individual. You will also take on key clinical responsibilities such as administering medication, contributing to care planning, and ensuring accurate documentation. You will play a central role in creating a homely, nurturing environment by coordinating meaningful activities, supporting residents with mobility and personal care, and liaising closely with multidisciplinary teams, families, and external professionals. - Lead, supervise, and support Care Assistants to maintain outstanding standards of care
- Deliver compassionate personal care while promoting residents' independence, dignity, and choices
- Organise, coordinate, and participate in enriching activities, outings, and social opportunities
- Attend MDT (multidisciplinary team) meetings and contribute actively to assessments and care planning
- Administer medication safely in line with internal policies and legal frameworks
- Maintain clear, accurate, and up-to-date records, including daily notes and incident reports
- Assist in developing, reviewing, and updating individual care plans and risk assessments
- Support residents with mobility, physical disabilities, and rehabilitation activities
- Assist during mealtimes, ensuring residents receive appropriate nutritional support
- Uphold stringent hygiene and infection-control standards throughout the home
- Report any changes in residents' health, behaviour, or needs promptly and appropriately
Level 3 Safe Handling of Medication Certificate (evidence required) - Previous experience and relevant qualifications within a care or medical setting
- A caring, patient, and empathetic approach with a genuine desire to help others
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to provide leadership, support colleagues, and maintain high-quality care standards
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-focused in challenging situations, Safeguarding: An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required for this position.
