Full Job Description

The Department of Anaesthesia at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is offering 6 to 12-month sub-specialty fellowship training programmes at Charing Cross Hospital in Head and neck/ Airway anaesthesia and/ or Neuro-anaesthesia. These posts are suited to senior residents who would like to sub-specialise in Head and Neck/ Advanced Airway anaesthesia or Neuro-anaesthesia. It is ideal for either Specialty Residents approaching the end of their training, or an anaesthetist who has completed their training and is looking to round off their experience prior to securing a consultant post.

One fellowship post in each sub-specialty will be available from August 2026. The subspecialty fellowships can be combined over the course of 12 months.

Later start dates can be considered.

GMC sponsorship is available but limited to candidates who are within 6 months of FANZCA certification and who fulfil our sponsorship criteria.

Main duties of the job

Airway anaesthesia fellowship

Post holders will spend most of their clinical time concentrating on our airway, head and neck and ENT lists, covering the advanced airway management/ head and neck curriculum of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCoA).

Neuro-anaesthesia fellowship

The majority of the clinical activity will focus on intracranial lists, complex spinal surgery, and interventional neuroradiology, including emergency thrombectomy service. The post holder's responsibilities will cover the advanced neuroanaesthesia curriculum of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCoA). The post holder will take part in the senior resident on call rota alongside the other senior residents and fellows, which operates at a frequency of 1 in 8.

There is a strong departmental tradition of performing, presenting, and publishing research and audit projects. The post holder will support developments in education, research, leadership and subspecialty related quality improvement projects within the Trust. Educational development time is available to post holders.

The post will be covered by the same arrangements for study leave and supervision that apply to residents in HEE approved posts. Study and annual leave are to be taken during weeks when not on call, or sessions moved accordingly.

Depending on experience £44,170 - £67,610 per annum plus London Weighting
