PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £57,000.00 - £67,000.00 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights. We're happy to discuss flexible working. If you'd like to, please indicate your preference in the application - though there's no obligation to do so now. Flexible working will be part of the discussion at offer stage. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE The BBC is one of the UK's most well-known and loved brands. The iPlayer & Sounds product teams build some of the most used products in BBC: our mission is to be the first place for anybody to go to watch or listen to BBC content. The Interactive TV teams within this department build and support the BBC's 'big screen' experiences, including iPlayer, Sounds and live events across our broadcast and connected TV platforms. WHY JOIN THE TEAM We're looking for enthusiastic Senior Software Engineers to join our cross-discipline agile team, where you'll help shape the future of TV products for millions of viewers. This role blends front-end development with elements of full-stack engineering, offering the chance to work on diverse technical challenges that drive our products forward. Based in MediaCityUK, Salford, you'll join our Product TV teams in the TV Account team - the group responsible for how users sign in to BBC applications on smart TVs and set-top boxes. From building intuitive, accessible UIs to integrating seamlessly with our authentication backends, we design and deliver smooth, secure sign-in journeys that work across a broad range of devices to deliver a world-class connected TV experience for BBC iPlayer and Sounds. Your work will involve developing innovative application features, performing integrations across a range of TV devices, and enhancing the TV platform that powers both iPlayer and BBC Sounds. You will have an opportunity to work on software at a scale that is hard to find - this is your opportunity to help define how our audiences engage with the BBC on the big screen.

Extensive experience developing and maintaining large-scale production software in fast-paced environments. Expertise in modern technologies, including JavaScript/TypeScript, front-end frameworks, and full-stack development. Strong technical foundation, covering test-driven development, design patterns, and operational concerns like scaling and security. Leadership and collaboration, with experience as a Technical Lead, mentoring junior engineers, and influencing stakeholders. Proficiency in agile methodologies, established development practices, and delivering high-quality software solutions. DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED: - Experience managing multiple projects or codebases simultaneously. - Expertise in TV platform development, ensuring intuitive and engaging user experiences. - Strong knowledge of accessibility standards, WCAG guidelines, and GDPR compliance. - Proficiency in AWS services and modern development toolchains for efficient deployment. - Ability to optimize performance, test, and debug across various devices and platforms., This job description is a written statement of the essential characteristics of the job, with its principal accountabilities, incorporating a note of the skills, knowledge and experience required for a satisfactory level of performance. This is not intended to be a complete, detailed account of all aspects of the duties involved.
