We are sorry to lose one of our wonderful team colleagues, but they are moving on to develop their skills in the academic arena.

If you want to work for possibly the best Social Work Mental Health Team in the UK we could be for you. We work with a range of wonderful clients aged between 18-65 who have a diagnosed mental health condition and support them with their goals, wants and needs in a Care Act focussed way to help them to become more independent and participate in the community in which they live. As a team we have a can do, positive attitude and if this is what you are looking for then we could be for you.

Every day is different with a new puzzle to solve from undertaking a Care Act Assessment to preparing reports, from attending court or working with health colleagues or supporting carers and family members - we need to be organised and prepared to support our residents, at times this takes a long time building rapport and trust, at others we need to move quickly responding to unfolding and fast moving situations.

What we can offer working in the Mental Health Teams: Working in a wonderful team of caring, kind, professionals who have access to flexible working and promotion of a good work life balance - we actively discourage you from taking lunch at your desk or no lunch at all because when you come to work we want you to be refreshed, happy and fulfilled and we know getting this balance right is key.

We offer, Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP), Best Interest Assessor (BIA) and as well as Practice Educator (PE) training opportunities - For those interested in some, or any, of these pathways, we're offering real development support.

Collaborative Working - You will be employed by Wakefield Council and may be sitting within a council or NHS setting and have the benefit of working collaboratively with NHS colleagues as equal partners with access to multi-disciplinary environment.

Specialist Knowledge Development - Enhance your understanding of key areas such as:
Care Act
Section 117 aftercare
Social supervision
Mental health legislation and practice such as the Mental Health Act (1983) and the Mental Capacity Act (2005)

Promoting Independence - Support individuals to maximise their independence and recovery through strengths-based, person-centred approaches.

Professional Development - You will have the chance to work with different teams and models across primary and secondary care, developing your personal learning and experience. With the opportunity to develop specialisms in areas such as Neurodiversity, Dementia and Veterans.
If you are unsure whether to apply, then contact us and we will be happy to tell you more. You can meet with Team Managers to explore the roles and / or shadow existing teams to get a feel for the work and culture!

What will be expected from me?

You will be responsible for a complex but manageable caseload, assist the Team Manager in providing support to other members of the team, supervising student social workers and other employees as required.
You will manage a complex workload with the support of senior colleagues in accordance with the directorate and other agency policies and procedures, applying a multi-discipline approach.
