Full Job Description
Barnet Council is seeking an experienced Senior Social Worker / Advanced Practitioner to join the 0-25 Disabilities Service, specialising in work with children and young people up to age 18. This is a specialist autism-focused team within Children's Disabilities, providing high-quality assessments, safeguarding, and support to children, young people and their families.
Key Responsibilities
Complete statutory assessments under the Children Act and related legislation
Lead on complex casework involving children and young people with disabilities, particularly autism
Develop, implement and review Child in Need, Child Protection and multi-agency plans
Undertake direct work with children and families, using communication approaches tailored to additional needs
Manage safeguarding concerns, risk assessments and multi-agency coordination
Provide professional guidance, mentoring and support to less experienced staff
Prepare high-quality reports for panels, meetings and court where required
Work collaboratively with health, education, SEND and community partners
Maintain accurate, timely case records in line with statutory and organisational standards
Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
Strong experience in children's disability services, autism, and complex needs
Skilled in assessment, safeguarding, risk management and multi-agency working
Confident managing complex caseloads and working independently
Excellent communication, analytical and report-writing skills
Child-centred, resilient and committed to inclusive practice
