About the Team
We are a collaborative team responsible for helping UK financial sanctions work effectively and avoid unintended consequences for legitimate activity. Our work involves assessing risks, identifying trends and providing clear recommendations to senior officials and Ministers.
The General Licensing Branch develops and maintains licences that provide permissions for categories of activity. You will work at pace with colleagues across OFSI and government, drawing on a range of expertise to progress complex cases and support litigation and legal challenges.
About the Job
As a Senior Sanctions Adviser, you'll play a key role in helping UK financial sanctions work effectively in practice. Working on complex and often high-profile issues, you'll help develop and maintain General Licences that enable legitimate activity while supporting the UK's wider sanctions objectives.
You'll work closely with colleagues across government, legal advisers and external stakeholders to analyse evidence, manage risks and develop practical solutions to challenging problems. No two days are the same, and you'll have the opportunity to contribute to work that attracts significant ministerial, parliamentary and public interest.
You will:
- Help develop and review General Licences, researching issues and providing clear, evidence-based advice.
- Manage a varied portfolio of work, balancing competing priorities and delivering at pace.
- Contribute to high-profile and sensitive sanctions cases, including litigation and legal challenges.
- Build strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across government and beyond.
- Develop guidance and communications that support understanding and compliance with sanctions measures.
You do not need prior sanctions experience to apply. We're looking for people who are curious, analytical and comfortable working through complex issues. Whether your experience comes from policy, regulation, operational delivery, casework, investigations, compliance or another related field, we'd love to hear from you.
About You
We're looking for someone who is curious, analytical and enjoys solving complex problems. You'll be confident assessing information, balancing risks and making evidence-based recommendations, even when dealing with challenging or ambiguous issues.
You'll thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities while delivering high-quality work to tight deadlines. Just as importantly, you'll understand how your work fits into wider objectives and be able to build strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve shared outcomes.
Some of the Benefits our people love!
· 25 days annual leave (rising to 30 after 5 years), plus 8 public holidays and the King’s birthday (unless you have a legacy arrangement as an existing Civil Servant). Additionally, we operate flexitime systems, allowing employees to take up to an additional 2 days off each month
· Flexible working patterns (part-time, job-share, condensed hours)
· Generous parental and adoption leave packages
· Access to a generous Defined Benefit pension scheme with employer contributions of 28.97%
· Access to a cycle-to-work salary sacrifice scheme and season ticket advances
· A range of active staff networks, based around interests (e.g. analysts, music society, sports and social club) and diversity
