Senior Research Associate in Hydrogen, Materials and Microscopy
Department of Engineering Science, Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3PJ
We are seeking a full-time Senior Research Associate in Hydrogen, Materials and Microscopy to work under the supervision of Profs Emilio Martinez-Paneda and Jin-Chong Tan at the Department of Engineering Science (central Oxford). The post is funded by income from the MBLEM SRF, the LIMA SRF and Hydrogen SRF, and the ERC Starting Grant ResistHfracture, led by Prof Emilio Martinez-Paneda. This is an open-ended, externally-funded post.
The postholder will manage and develop three shared research facilities: the MBLEM SRF, the LIMA SRF and the Hydrogen SRF. You will train and supervise users; carry out experiments for internal and external users; oversee safe operation, maintenance and continuous improvement; develop protocols for hydrogen exposure, microscopy and mechanical testing; support contracts, invoicing, cost recovery and industrial engagement; secure funding for long-term sustainability; and contribute to related research, reports and publications.
You should possess a relevant PhD/DPhil with post-qualification research experience, a strong publication record, and specialist expertise in materials engineering, microscopy and hydrogen embrittlement testing. You should also have experience developing and managing laboratory equipment, the ability to plan and manage research projects and budgets, experience or capability in raising research funds, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to inclusive working.
