Full Job Description

As a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer, you'll provide independent quality assurance across major defence infrastructure and engineering projects within Devonport Royal Dockyard. This is a highly respected role, offering influence without delivery bias, allowing you to challenge, assure and strengthen quality outcomes from early design through construction, installation, commissioning and handover. Day-to-day, you'll work alongside programme and project teams, acting as a trusted authority who helps ensure compliance with stringent internal controls, regulatory obligations and external standards. Your insight will directly improve safety, reliability and long-term asset performance, while giving you broad exposure to complex, high-value defence programmes and strengthening your professional credibility.

  • Providing quality leadership and independent assurance across multiple engineering and infrastructure projects
  • Reviewing Quality Management Plans, Inspection and Test Plans and Lifetime Quality Records
  • Supporting project teams with quality guidance throughout execution and delivery phases
  • Conducting internal and external audits and supporting third-party assessments
  • Managing non-conformities, corrective actions and continuous improvement activities
  • This role is full time, 35 is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

  • Extensive experience in quality assurance and quality control within engineering or construction environments
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems
  • Experience operating within regulated environments, including defence or nuclear settings
  • Proven auditing experience with the ability to challenge and assure effectively
  • Demonstrated capability in risk identification, analysis and quality improvement
  • Qualifications for the Senior Quality Assurance Engineer
  • A recognised professional qualification in Quality Management
  • Certified Lead Auditor status
  • NVQ Level 4 or recognised professional status, or significant engineering experience supported by NVQ Level 3 in an engineering discipline
  • Security Clearance The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
