Full Job Description
We are seeking to appoint a Senior Postdoctoral Researcher in Genomics of Myeloid Disorders to join the computational genomics group led by Prof Schuster-Boeckler to work on a collaborative project investigating the transition from Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) to secondary AML (sAML). This role is based at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, Nuffield Department of Medicine.
Our overarching aim is to develop better prognostic biomarkers to identify patients at particularly high risk of progression from MDS to sAML. We will build on the "liquid biopsy" approaches the lab has pioneered, including the use of TET-Assisted Pyridine-borane Sequencing (TAPS), an innovative sequencing method that allows the simultaneous detection of mutations and methylation changes. In this role, you will take a lead on developing data analysis approaches and contribute to the overall study design and implementation. In particular, this will involve applying existing or even developing new algorithmic approaches for TAPS data, interpreting the results in the context of phenotypic observations, and communicating these findings clearly to the broader team. You will prepare the results for presentation as publications in journals and at national and international conferences. You will raise research funds through grant applications and manage own area of a larger research budget.
It is essential that you hold a PhD/DPhil with clear relation to biology together with relevant research experience in academia or industry. You will have experience with cancer genomics, including sequencing methodologies and associated bioinformatic applications. You will understand epigenetic regulation, in particular DNA methylation and good knowledge of genome biology in the contest of cancer. You will be able to organise and priorities work efficiently and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Having previous experience working with cell-free DNA sequencing data is desirable.
