The Growth Delivery Unit (GDU) drives delivery of the Chancellor’s priorities and supports his leadership of the government’s number one priority: growth - the government’s ambition to grow the UK economy. We do that by combining policy, analytical, project management and data science skills to supervise the progress of policies and projects from announcement to actually delivering real-world outcomes; identify when and why progress is being blocked; and intervene to overcome those barriers. About the Job

In this role, you will be:

• Leading one of GDU’s ‘priority projects’ to unblock delivery of a ministerial growth priority or a major coordination workstream for set piece HMT fiscal events. Acting as the team’s subject-matter expert and first point of contact for the project. Developing short and medium-term project plan to deliver outcomes. This could include interrogating delivery plans and working with colleagues across government to develop innovative and practical solutions to challenges, organising ministerial and SpAd bilats, and working closely with spending teams and seniors across the department.
• Developing an understanding of the wider context in which the priority is being delivered, including political and strategic drivers, to support effective communication to seniors and ministers; identify strategically meaningful issues; spot risks and blockers to delivery progress; and propose solutions.
• Building and managing relationships across HM Treasury, government, and externally where necessary, to come up with effective and creative solutions to problems and barriers to delivery.
• Effectively communicating delivery updates and proposed solutions to senior officials, special advisors, and ministers, in writing and verbally. Work with the analysis and data science branch to communicate via innovative presentational products such as project dashboards when appropriate. Coordinate with the other Grade 7 and cross-government to organise ministerial bilats and utilise governance fora where necessary.
• Line managing an SEO policy adviser. Providing quality branch leadership alongside the G6 and other G7, maintaining a clear focus on development, inclusion and wellbeing.

This high-profile role will drive the Chancellor’s growth priorities, working closely with ministers, special advisers and senior officials in a fast-paced environment. Going beyond conventional policy work, the post-holder will use novel delivery approaches to supervise outcomes, unblock barriers and develop practical interventions. They will work innovatively across a multidisciplinary team - combining policy, project management and analytical insight with data science and bespoke AI - and with partners across government and externally. The role requires strategic thinking, excellent judgement, creativity and leadership.

The post-holder will own the sub-team supervising these priorities, identifying risks and solving delivery problems. This role is evolving under the new Chancellor and team, and so the role holder should be willing and excited for their responsibilities to change and expand as the job develops
