Full Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and forward-thinking Pharmacy Technician to join Wye Valley NHS Trust, where you will support the Lead Pharmacist and Lead Pharmacy Technician for High Cost Drugs & Homecare in developing systems for the management, reporting, and governance of High Cost Drugs and Homecare services. The role involves providing information and support to clinical teams prescribing High Cost Drugs, as well as liaising closely with Pharmacy Technical Services and Procurement to ensure efficient service delivery. You will contribute to continuous service improvement using innovative approaches, helping to develop and enhance the pharmacy technician role while integrating effectively within the multidisciplinary team. The post also includes participation in the Accredited Checking Technician (ACT) rota and requires operational commitment to the wider Pharmacy service, including weekends, late nights, and Bank Holidays on a rotational basis, To support the Lead Pharmacist and Lead Pharmacy Technician for Homecare and High Cost Drugs, responsible for the development, provision and maintenance of the Homecare Service to ensure compliance with national standards, guidelines, local policy, and procedures.
To support the Homecare Service operationally, overseeing and supporting the Senior Assistant Technical Officers HighCost Drugs & Homecare (SATOs HCD & Homecare) with prescription management, ordering, invoicing and overseeing the allocation and management of the workload.
To validate and clinically screen specified homecare prescriptions upon completion of the PWDS Homecare Clinical Validation module, working under a defined scope of practice and with a clear referral pathway to a Clinical Pharmacist if needed and with the support of the Lead Pharmacy Technician for High Cost Drugs and Homecare.
To support the Lead Pharmacist and Lead Pharmacy Technician to ensure commissioned high cost drugs are appropriately monitored and recorded for compliance with national guidance and income for the Trust including the authorisation of urgent orders in line with clinical need.
