Full Job Description

As a Senior Lecturer in Engineering, your role will be to demonstrate sustained commitment to excellence in industrial collaboration and education through delivery of teaching across our programmes and the academic support of our students through project supervision and tutorials. You will be expected to play a leading role in building and maintaining relationships with key industry partners. You will also be expected to participate in scholarly activity and leadership within the international academic community.

The successful applicant will have a PhD in Engineering/Computer Science or related discipline and with strong industry background (at least 10 year's experience). They will also demonstrate experience of enterprise activity and be able to evidence strong and well-established connections with key industry and government contacts. The candidate will demonstrate understanding of the positive, proactive research and teaching environment and will aim to enhance the collegiate culture of our Department.

Engineering education and research has been a part of City St George's for more than 100 years. Located in the heart of London, the department is renowned for its sector-leading facilities, which give our students hands-on experience with industrial technology. Our highly rated courses help students to develop the technical expertise, strategic thinking, innovation and communication skills needed to go on and build successful careers in a diverse range of Engineering fields. The department has strong links with industry (local, national and global), maintaining partnerships through research projects and student placements, and accrediting bodies have commended how closely we involve industry in our courses.

The Department of Engineering has approximately 1500 undergraduate students, over 200 Masters students and over 100 Doctoral students. There are about 60 academic staff in the Department and teaching, particularly at Masters levels is supported by a number of visiting lecturers typically from specialized industry background. The Department has excellent tradition in teaching underpinned by world class research. Engineering at City St George's is renowned for its extensive state-of-the-art facilities, including the Geotechnical Centrifuge Centre, Structures Strong floor and wind tunnels. City has also invested in high-performance computing for numerical simulations.
