The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for welfare, pensions and child maintenance policy and is responsible for helping people move into employment, supporting pensioners and protecting some of the most vulnerable in our society. Counter Fraud Compliance and Debt's (CFCD) aim is to drive down the level of fraud, error and debt within the benefit system, to protect the public purse.

This is a fantastic opportunity to lead a nationally dispersed team strategically and engage with internal and external stakeholders. This role is based within the Communications Data Unit, which deals with the acquisition of Communications Data using the Investigatory Powers Act 2016 and is a crucial part of enhancing many of our criminal investigations.

What you can expect:

You will lead a small team of accredited SPoCs so will need to be able to communicate confidently and understand the role performed by them utilising powers under the Investigatory Powers Act.

To promote efficiency and good practice in ensuring only practical and lawful applications for CD are made, and encouraging application of IPA to a diverse range of allegations of fraud with a view to securing positive case outcomes for the Department.

The ability to work flexibly across boundaries, building capability and undertaking regular activity to build and sustain engagement.

To provide specialist advice to criminal investigators, senior managers and other parts of the DWP, to influence and inform decision making.

To participate in service design activities and seek to influence change, using continuous improvement to monitor and update documents and procedures where required.

To coach, mentor and support staff and service users, creating opportunities for development and continuous improvement to ensure knowledge and new performance objectives keep pace with changes in criminal behaviour.

To establish, develop and maintain professional relationships internally and externally.

To lead and participate in the annual Investigatory Powers Commissioners Office (IPCO) inspection regime for acquisition of CD and Records and Product Management.

Due to the geographically dispersed nature of the team, this role will require occasional travel and overnight stays.
