Senior Immunisation Nurse (Worthing) Part-Time

Senior Immunisation Nurse based at Durrington Health Centre, supporting the Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust Immunisation Service across Sussex.

You will provide day-to-day leadership to a local team of immunisation nurses, assistants, administrators and bank staff, ensuring the smooth delivery of school and outreach vaccination sessions and nurse-led clinics. You will work collaboratively across Sussex and with school health teams to improve immunisation uptake through local strategies and public health initiatives.

The role involves planning and delivering national routine immunisation programmes for children and young people aged 0-19, including HPV, Td/IPV, MenACWY, Flu, MMR and BCG. You will independently manage nurse-led clinics and promote high-quality, safe, accessible and holistic immunisation services for children, young people and families.

Applicants should have knowledge and experience of childhood immunisations and the ability to lead and support a busy, friendly team.

Core hours are 08:00-16:00, with occasional earlier starts for vaccine preparation, later finishes for clinics, and one Saturday morning clinic per school term.

Main duties of the job

a) Works under both Patient Group Directions and Patient Specific Directions to administer vaccinations using correct technique.

b) Provides individualised patient care based upon the principles of evidence based practice.

c) Planning transportation of equipment and resources in line with Health and Safety requirements, and set up sessions within the settings used for immunisations.

d) Assist with the development of, deliver and evaluate training to a range of professionals and organisations.

e) Planning staffing, resources and leading immunisation sessions within a geographical area, clinics and home visits, including, but not limited to, hard to reach groups such as travellers, home educated and looked after children.

f) Undertake appropriate health assessment prior to the administration of immunisations.

g) To respond promptly and appropriately to enquiries from Parents/ guardians, young people and other professionals.

h) Responsible for ensuring mandatory training is up to date for self and for other staff within own team.

i) Works as an autonomous practitioner planning and organising day-to-day workload.

j) Promotes and maintains accurate record keeping within their local team, which conforms to NMC and SCFT policy and data protection legislation; in addition to carrying out team record keeping audits.
