Senior Healthcare Technical Officer (SHTO)

In this role, you will be manufacturing and sampling blood products as well as providing vital support to qualified scientific staff. You will be processing blood products after the units have been received from the donors. This will involve scanning in the units of blood and processing the units to safely transfuse i.e. red cells, platelets, and plasma. You will also be required to supervise small teams within the department and assist with training of staff when required.,

• You will be required to perform a range of scientific and technical activities related to the blood (and where appropriate tissue) donations from our donors, with the support of the team
• You will be responsible for the support and training of new and less experienced staff and communicate effectively with team member and internal customers.
• You will be required to undertake precise repetitive manipulation of equipment and blood samples/donations and carry out routine tasks on a regular basis
• You will be required to handle blood bags and a range of equipment
• You will be required to meet the quality and quantity production goals, while prioritzing workload expectations and maintaining accurate documentation
• You will be required to perform data entry and operate computer programs associated with component production and make decisions based on the visual inspection of blood components. Performing complex manufacturing tasks such as pooled product manufacturing and freezing of components
• The role will require you to work variable hours and days, weekends and bank holidays as per the roster within the department (unless otherwise rostered within the shift agreement) with appropriate notice
• You will be required to manually handle equipment on a daily basis weighing up to 13 kgs, with or without appropriate mechanical aids
