Full Job Description
Working closely with the Deputy Business Manager and Grants & Finance Manager, you will take responsibility for the department's non-research finance function, providing high-quality management accounting, financial analysis and compliance oversight. You will:
- Lead month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial processes, including accruals, prepayments and variance analysis
- Support annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting, working directly with budget holders
- Provide clear, insightful financial reporting to inform decision-making
- Act as the lead for financial compliance and self-assurance within CV Med
- Line manage and develop finance staff, building capability and resilience within the team
- Drive continuous improvement of financial processes, embedding University policies and best practice This role sits within a collaborative departmental and divisional finance community and offers genuine scope to influence how finance supports research and clinical activity.
- Previous experience in a finance role, preferably within higher education
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, including accruals and prepayments
- Confidence using financial systems (Oracle experience is particularly desirable) and advanced Excel skills
- Excellent organisational and communication skills, with a solutions-focused approach
- Experience supporting or supervising colleagues, with the confidence to guide and advise stakeholders Experience within a large or complex organisation - and exposure to budgets, forecasting or research finance - would be advantageous.
