Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Senior Finance Officer to join our Finance team, working closely with the Group Head of Finance at a pivotal time for the organisation. This is a high-impact role for a finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment and wants to play a meaningful part in shaping how finance supports the wider Group. As Senior Finance Officer, you will be at the heart of driving continuous improvement, strengthening financial processes and systems, and developing a resilient, high-performing finance service. You will help ensure the smooth and efficient running of the finance function, providing stability, insight and assurance that enables the Group to deliver outstanding services without interruption. Joining Etc., you will take the lead in delivering a responsive, professional and customer-focused income and expenditure service to students and staff. Working collaboratively across teams, you will ensure financial activities are managed with accuracy, integrity and compliance, fully aligned with financial regulations, policies and procedures, including:

  • Line management of Finance Officers and Finance Administrators.
  • Development, implementation and review of policies, procedures and systems ensuring compliance with Financial Regulations and consistency across OneEtc.
  • Monitor commercial and student debt and advise on effective collection of amounts due to the college in accordance with the Debt Management Policy.
  • Monitoring of balance sheet control accounts.
  • Produce monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Provide purchase ledger support during staff absence to ensure continuity of service.
  • Provide receivables ledger support during staff absence to ensure continuity of service.
  • Assist in the preparation of timely and accurate monthly management accounts and the annual statutory accounts.
  • Liaise with auditors, where appropriate, on relevant internal and external audits.

    Good general education, with GCSE Level 4 or equivalent in English and Maths
  • Experience of purchase and receivables ledger administration and the operation of computerised accounting systems
  • Experience of leading and developing team members
  • Ability to work to own initiative and make decisions when appropriate
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate financial information appropriately to a variety of people
  • Commitment to team working
  • Ability to motivate and lead colleagues and undertake own workload with accuracy
  • Creative thinker able to foresee issues and generate solutions
  • Common sense, co-operative and positive approach
  • Adaptable, open to change, and willing to take on challenges with enthusiasm
  • Enhanced DBS Check
  • Full UK driving licence/ability to visit various local group sites
  • A professional accountancy qualification (or working towards) is essential. Experience in working within a Further Education, training or Public Sector organisation is desirable.
