Full Job Description

We are advertising for a Senior Clinical Fellow (registrar level (ST3+)) in Upper GI, General Surgery at Southmead Hospital. The position is fixed term for 12 months and starting in October 2026. The post is intended to provide additional experience in various general surgical specialities to enable progression into a formal NTN for general surgical training. Although not a recognised training post, there are considerable training and educational opportunities for the successful candidates. There is a comprehensive induction course and regular weekly teaching with the intention that the service commitment, supervision level and educational opportunities will be equivalent to that of our existing trainees. This is a Full-Time post providing with basic hours of 40 hours per week, plus General Surgery oncalls as an addition., Senior clinical registrars will be expected to participate in ward rounds, clinics and operating theatres. The postholder accepts that s/he will also perform duties on the emergency take and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation where practicable with senior colleagues.

The General Surgery department is part of a busy Trauma Hospital and performs around 190 emergency laparotomies, 150 elective colorectal resections, over 100 bariatric operations and over 500 laparoscopic cholecystectomies per year and has a busy and active elective breast surgical practice., Bristol NHS Foundation Trust brings together more than 28,000 staff to deliver over 160 clinical services across thirteen hospital locations, operating from three main sites at Southmead, Bristol city centre and Weston.     £67,325 to £76,582 a year per annum (plus on-call supplements as additional)
