Senior Clinical Fellow in Thyroid, Parathyroid, Head Neck Robo Surgery

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 12-month Senior Clinical Fellowship in Thyroid, Parathyroid and Robotic Head & Neck Surgery

This unique fellowship offers advanced training in the full spectrum of benign and malignant Head & Neck Surgery, with particular emphasis on thyroid and parathyroid disease, surgeon-performed ultrasound, minimally invasive interventions and robotic surgery.

The department provides comprehensive multidisciplinary care through dedicated one-stop diagnostic clinics delivered in collaboration with Endocrinology, Radiology and Cellular Pathology. The service manages a high volume of endocrine neck pathology and performs over 120 thyroid and parathyroid procedures annually, including complex thyroid surgery, minimally invasive parathyroidectomy and re-operative endocrine surgery.

Kingston Hospital is one of the first centres in Europe to routinely offer Transoral Robotic Thyroidectomy Vestibular Approach (TORTVA) and Transoral Robotic Parathyroidectomy Vestibular Approach (TORPVA), providing the successful applicant with exposure to cutting-edge robotic endocrine neck surgery techniques not widely available elsewhere in the UK.

The fellowship provides an exceptional opportunity for senior trainees approaching CCT, post-CCT fellows or newly appointed consultants wishing to develop advanced subspecialist expertise in endocrine head and neck surgery.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

o Participate in the assessment, investigation and management of patients with benign and malignant head and neck conditions.

o Undertake supervised and independent operating across the spectrum of thyroid, parathyroid and head and neck surgery according to experience and competency.

o Attend dedicated thyroid, parathyroid and head and neck clinics, including one-stop diagnostic clinics.

o Develop competency in head and neck ultrasound, including thyroid, salivary gland and cervical lymph node assessment, with opportunities for ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration and core biopsy.

o Gain exposure to thyroid thermal ablation techniques, including radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and microwave ablation (MWA).

o Participate in robotic head and neck and endocrine surgery, including exposure to Transoral Robotic Thyroidectomy Vestibular Approach (TORTVA) and Transoral Robotic Parathyroidectomy Vestibular Approach (TORPVA).

o Contribute to the delivery and development of the Head & Neck, Thyroid and Parathyroid services in accordance with Trust objectives.

o Provide clinical supervision and teaching for junior medical staff, medical students and allied healthcare professionals.

o Support the department's educational, research and innovation activities.
