Full Job Description

Working closely with other members of the clinical team, the applicant will be expected to provide clinical care for all patients receiving intensive/high-dependency care at the Royal Brompton Hospital. They will be fully involved with the investigation of patients by both invasive and non-invasive techniques and there will be opportunities for instruction and experience in paediatric intensive care. The clinical fellows are responsible for the supervision and teaching of the junior clinical fellows in their duties.

Applications are invited for Clinical Fellow posts in Paediatric Intensive Care. Please note, this post may be based at the Royal Brompton Hospital PICU or at the Evelina London Children's Hospital PICU. This post is suitable for anaesthetists, paediatricians, paediatric cardiologists, or trainees with an adult intensive care background wishing to gain further experience in the management of critically ill children with cardio-respiratory problems. Applicants for the Clinical Fellow post are expected to have at least one years' experience in paediatric or adult intensive care and full MRCPCH status or equivalent.

The Royal Brompton Hospital is the largest postgraduate specialist heart and lung centre in the United Kingdom. A fundamental strength is its close collaboration on basic science research with the National Heart and Lung Institute. The Paediatric Cardiothoracic ICU admits close to 700 children per year with over 400 postoperative cardiopulmonary bypass cases. The posts offer a wide range of experience within the specialised area of Cardiorespiratory Care including the management and follow up of critically ill children. There is an active integrated teaching programme, and post holders are strongly encouraged to attend the established teaching programmes in the Paediatric Cardiology and Respiratory departments. Specific training needs of candidates can be accommodated within the PICU and associated paediatric sub-specialities. Research and audit activity is strongly encouraged and supported.
