Full Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious senior biostatistical researcher to join our interdisciplinary team designing, developing and testing new bioinformatic pipelines to analyse important public health pathogens. The team comprises research software engineers, bioinformatic engineers, biostatistical researchers, clinical researchers, molecular biologists and computational microbiologists. Our work is funded by the Ellison Institute of Technology, Oxford Ltd and the pipelines we develop are deployed in https://www.eit-pathogena.com for use around the world and also for research purpose.
We are part of the larger Modernising Medical Microbiology (MMM) Unit which comprises approximately 40 researchers situated in Oxford, predominantly at the John Radcliffe Hospital. The group is taking a lead in infectious diseases research in the UK.
This is an unusual opportunity to guide and lead the validation of new pathogen genetics pipelines that will ultimately be deployed onto a cloud-based industry-standard platform, including their subsequent use for further research.
This post is full-time (part-time working will be considered, 0.8 FTE, 30 hours per week minimum) and is fixed term up to 31/03/2027.
You will have extensive expertise in statistics, likely including a PhD, and experience and interest in working in biomedical science and/or medicine. You will have led research projects in the past and have an interesting record of peer-reviewed publications. Proficiency in a high-level programming language is required as is a willingness to work collaboratively with the wider team. If you like the idea of working as part of an interdisciplinary team that is helping bring cloud computing to the world of genetics-based clinical microbiology we'd love to hear from you.
Applications from candidates who do not fulfil the essential criteria will be considered, to be appointed at the appropriate Grade 7 with a salary range of £38,674- £46,913 per annum with amended duties and responsibilities.
Benefits of working
University employees enjoy 38 days' paid holiday, generous pension schemes, travel discounts, and a variety of professional development opportunities. Our range of other employee benefits and discounts also includes free entry to the Botanic Gardens and University colleges, and discounts at University museums.
