Full Job Description
As a Senior Application Engineer, you will help keep our application services running well. You will lead on the technical lifecycle for application systems, from procurement and development through to support. You will provide expert advice and support to a wide range of colleagues. You will also carry out application developer duties, such as fixing technical problems and maintaining applications. This role sits within the Applications function and is line managed by the Lead Application Engineer.,
- Act as the technical specialist for application systems and understand the wider impact of changes.
- Provide support within the Applications team to agreed service levels.
- Take ownership of incidents assigned to you and see them through to completion.
- Work with suppliers and service leads to resolve issues and escalate where needed.
- Troubleshoot issues, assess configurations, and use monitoring tools to identify and fix problems.
- Record your analysis and update operational documentation.
- Assess software solutions and advise on fit, integration, and opportunities to reduce duplicate systems.
- Work with service teams and other Digital Services teams to improve support and user experience.
- Support planned work, including new systems, upgrades, changes, and enhancements.
- Use IT tools to manage day-to-day work, automate repeat tasks where appropriate, and lead problem and change work for the systems you support.
Experience as the lead responsible officer for major information technology systems or support services. - Experience working at a senior level in a large IT service environment, delivering change.
- Experience motivating, and developing staff to deliver strong performance.
- Experience advising non-IT colleagues and presenting clear reports or business cases to senior managers.
- Experience maintaining accurate financial and technical information.
- Proven ability to provide deep technical input to large, complex IT projects.
- Experience building and maintaining effective working relationships with partners and suppliers.
- Substantial experience implementing and supporting large and complex IT systems to agreed service levels.
- Experience planning, managing, and delivering system upgrades.
- Experience migrating systems to cloud hosting or Software as a Service (SaaS).
- Knowledge of asset and configuration management, availability and capacity management, incident management, problem management, and change management.
- A commitment to high levels of customer service and service improvement.
- A relevant degree or equivalent recognised IT qualification, or relevant experience at a senior level.
