Full Job Description

St James Senior Girls' School is seeking a dedicated SENDCo to join our team to play a vital role in promoting the welfare, safety, and success of our pupils.

Rooted in the school's ethos of care, respect, high expectations, and inclusion, this role is central to ensuring every young person feels safe, supported, and able to thrive both academically and personally. The postholder will deliver targeted, tiered, and coordinated interventions for pupils with a range of needs, including those experiencing mental health, social, emotional, or behavioural challenges that impact engagement with learning.

Working closely with pupils, families, teaching staff, and external agencies and professionals, the role focuses on cultivating a positive environment, improving our SEND provision, and ensuring the right support is in place for pupils to access education and achieve their potential. Listening to and amplifying the pupil voice is a key part of shaping positive experiences and outcomes at St James Senior Girls'.

As SENDCo, the postholder will lead SEND across the school. Responsibilities include responding to safeguarding concerns, maintaining accurate and confidential records, liaising with external agencies, and ensuring statutory safeguarding duties are met in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).

This role combines hands-on pastoral support with strategic and statutory safeguarding responsibilities, requiring a proactive, resilient professional who shares the school's commitment to putting young people's wellbeing, safety, and dignity at the heart of everything we do.

St James is a thriving and happy school where there is a strong emphasis on the education of the whole person, which includes the development of moral and spiritual values. Commitment to the ethos of the school and the ability to work within a team are essential.

St James is on an attractive site in Central London, by Kensington Olympia, with its own salary scale.
