Full Job Description

This is a new and exciting role in our Ofsted 2024 'Good' school to enhance and support a small group of our wonderful children with moderate SEND.
Due to the expansion of provision across early years and key stage 1, we are seeking a passionate and experienced person to join our amazing team in the Caterpillar Room. This is a fixed term role but is likely to be extended for a further year or to a permanent post.

Our Caterpillar Room supports a small group of children with Autism and SEMH difficulties who require a low stimulus environment. We have had incredible feedback from both Ofsted and the authority on this provision and we wish to enhance this further with the right person.
We strongly recommend visits to see our setting and to meet our very special children.

Responsibilities
Supervise and provide particular support for SEND pupils, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities
Assist with the development and implementation of the graduated approach and educational health care plan
Establish constructive relationships with pupils and interact with them according to individual needs
Promote inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities
Promote self-esteem and independence
To show genuine care and concern for the children in your care ensuring you are proactive in the setting
Possible support with toileting and self-care
Delivering small group interventions focused on children with SEND e.g. Attention Autism

Support for the teacher
Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment
In liaison with the teacher, use strategies to support pupil to achieve learning goals, adapting where appropriate
Assist the teacher with the preparation of teaching and learning materials and subject matter
Monitor pupil responses to learning activities and accurately record pupil achievement/progress as directed
Provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers on pupil achievement, progress, problems etc
Promote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents and encouraging pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour in line with established school policy
Establish positive relationships with parents/carers
Support for the curriculum
Undertake structured and agreed learning activities/learning programmes taking into consideration pupil learning styles. Adjust activities according to pupil responses/needs
Support children to access continuous provision and recognise the value of play in supporting young children with SEND.

Support for the school
Be aware of and comply with school policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection. Report all concerns to the appropriate person (as named in the policy concerned).
Be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
Attend relevant meetings and training as required
Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.
Assist with the supervision of pupils out of directed lesson time, including lunchtime.
Accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities as required and take responsibility for a group under the supervision of a teacher.
To be responsible for and committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and for ensuring that they are protected from harm.
