Full Job Description
This is more than a job - it's your chance to make a meaningful impact by supporting inclusive education and helping children and families navigate complex systems with empathy, integrity, and professionalism.
This role is Monday to Friday for 37 hours a week. Hybrid working - based at New Parks House and remote, as per service needs
What you'll be doing:
Manage a caseload of children, young people and adults (aged 0 - 25) for statutory assessment and Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans to ensure they meet the statutory requirements for children and young people. Prepare, propose, and amend EHC plans in line with the Children and Families Act 2014, Education Act 1996, and the SEND Code of Practice.
Analyse reports from education, health, and social care professionals to inform the plan writing of high-quality, legally compliant plans. Liaise with a range of agencies to co-produce tailored support for children and young people with SEND across education, health and social care.
Prepare and present cases to Local Authority panels and follow up on outcomes. Attend and contribute to complex, sensitive meetings. Manage a case load of mediations and SEND Tribunals. Coordinate annual reviews for pupils with EHC plans not on a school role, including those who are permanently excluded, electively home educated, or receiving EOTAS (Education Other Than At School).
Represent the Local Authority at appeal hearings and mediation with a solution-focused, child-centred approach.
What you'll need:
You'll have experience of Special Educational Needs within a Local Authority or statutory body, ideally within a specialist area involving multi-professional assessment and appeal procedures. Using knowledge of the Children's and Families Act, you'll be able to follow the statutory process for an Education, Health, and Care Plan.
Experience of putting together bespoke education packages for children and young people with complex needs would be advantageous.
You'll be able to work confidently with parents, schools, and other agencies, providing clear and concise advice and guidance. Working in a sensitive and confidential environment, you'll be proactive, working to relevant timescales in a professional and timely manner. Fully committed to the aims and objectives of social inclusion, you'll be dedicated to removing discrimination where it occurs.
We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented SEND Inclusion Officer (EHCP) to join our team. This vital role offers the opportunity to shape the futures of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across Leicester City.
What we can offer you
As well as the satisfaction of helping to improve thousands of lives across Leicester, you can look forward to a work environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance. You'll enjoy generous annual leave, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and the option of flexible working. We'll also give you the chance to develop your skills and expertise with a variety of training and development opportunities. In addition, you can choose from a number of flexible benefits, including childcare vouchers, discounts on city buses and trains and help with relocation to Leicester, where appropriate
