SEND Clinical Support Worker

The School Health Service provides support to children, young people and their families through a progressive universal model of service delivery, tailored to assessed need.

The service provides a range of health and wellbeing interventions, including screening, developmental reviews, health promotion, and information and guidance to support positive parenting and healthy lifestyle choices, in line with current School Health priorities.

The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to promote and maintain the health, wellbeing and development of children and young people with mild to moderate and severe learning difficulties, including those with complex medical needs.

The role will involve delivering high-quality, child-centred clinical care within the school environment, working collaboratively with education staff, families and other professionals to ensure children and young people receive safe, effective and inclusive health support, The post holder will support the delivery of the School Health Service by managing and prioritising their own clinical administration and workload, maintaining accurate and confidential school health records, and contributing to the collection and processing of health data and statistics.

They will work closely with school staff, children, young people and the wider school health team, supporting health screening, immunisation programmes, New Entrant interviews, public health and health promotion activities.

The role will also involve mentoring and supporting new team members, students and colleagues, attending team meetings and contributing to service development, audit and quality improvement.

Following appropriate training and competency assessment, the post holder will undertake clinical duties including the administration of medicines and the care of children and young people requiring interventions such as urinary catheter care, PEG feeds and the use of specialist equipment in school and community settings.

The post holder will work within Trust policies, procedures and competency frameworks, maintain mandatory training, promote safeguarding and confidentiality, and ensure that all care and practice meets the required quality and safety standards.
