Full Job Description
Birmingham's SEND services have been growing as part of the council's long-term commitment to children, young people and their families and our improvements have recently been recognised by Ofsted. We're looking for motivated people to join our teams and make a meaningful impact in this priority area. Our SEND Assistant EHCNA Coordinators work closely with our Co-ordinators to respond to EHCNA requests and manage assessments for children and young people with special educational needs. Working within the legislative framework of the Children and Families Act 2014, you will provide a high standard of administrative support and accurate data entry whilst developing your knowledge of SEND. You will have experience of managing communication with young people, parents, carers and professionals, including schools and settings, relaying accurate information and explaining processes. Your organisational skills will support the team to gather the information required to make decisions about whether an assessment or EHC plan is required for a child or young person within statutory timescales. As a member of a team, you will be open to supporting colleagues with additional tasks and keen to participate in professional development opportunities to further your SEND career.
We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and aim to have a workforce that represents the communities we serve. Please upload an up-to-date CV and Supporting Statement via the attachments part of your application. You will find an organisation that is both challenging and supportive; with a leadership impatiently adventurous in its pursuit of excellence. There is a clear vision which is ensuring that the Council is working for communities today and building for tomorrow, we focus our resources on five key priorities:
- A Prosperous Birmingham: through a focus on inclusive economic growth, tackling unemployment, attracting inward investment, and maximising the benefits of the Commonwealth Games.
- An Inclusive Birmingham: through a focus on tackling poverty and inequality, empowering citizens, promoting diversity and civic pride, and supporting and enabling all children and young people to thrive.
- A Safe Birmingham: through a focus on making the city safer, safeguarding vulnerable citizens, increasing affordable housing, and tackling homelessness.
- A Healthy Birmingham: through a focus on tackling health inequalities, encouraging physical activity and healthy living, supporting mental health, and improving outcomes for adults with disabilities and older people.

We see the Council's role as providing strategic leadership - that's being able to visualise a new future for the city and equipping others to share our vision.
