Full Job Description
Based on a well-equipped campus in Woolton, this specialist school support's students with complex needs, including PMLD, autism, sensory impairments, and significant communication difficulties. Pupils benefit from small class sizes, integrated therapy services, a waking-hours curriculum, and access to on-site specialists. Both settings are rated Outstanding by Ofsted. We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN Support Assistant to join the team and help pupils achieve their full potential in a nurturing and highly supportive environment. The Role As an SEN Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to provide tailored support that enables pupils with additional needs to access learning, develop communication skills, and build independence. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with complex learning difficulties and additional needs
- Supporting students to engage with personalised, sensory, and functional learning activities
- Implementing communication strategies, including PECS, Makaton, AAC, and visual supports
- Assisting pupils with emotional regulation, sensory needs, and positive behaviour support strategies
- Following individual education, therapy, and behaviour support plans
- Supporting pupils with personal care, feeding, mobility, and manual handling where required
- Assisting during therapy sessions, hydrotherapy, and community-based learning activities
- Promoting pupil wellbeing, independence, and social development
- Helping to create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment
Have experience supporting children, young people, or adults with SEND, autism, learning disabilities, or complex needs - Demonstrate a patient, caring, and person-centred approach
- Be calm, resilient, and able to respond effectively to the varying needs of pupils
- Be comfortable supporting personal care and moving and handling tasks
- Have excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Have the right to work in the UK and be available full-time, PECS, Makaton, BSL, AAC, or other communication support training
- Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification (or equivalent)
- MAPA, Team Teach, or similar positive behaviour support/de-escalation training
- Previous experience working within a specialist SEND school or care setting
