Full Job Description
LIFE Education Trust is planning to open a new independent special school to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The Haefen, set in a beautiful open location, on farmland, with access to woodland and a private beach area, aims to create a nurturing, structured and inclusive learning environment where every young person feels safe, supported and able to achieve their full potential. Our school will provide a highly supportive setting with small class sizes, a strong pastoral approach and a dedicated team committed to improving outcomes for children who may have experienced barriers to learning in mainstream education. We are looking for a passionate, resilient and inclusive qualified teacher who shares our values of Courageous Optimism, Boundless Creative and Heartfelt Compassion. The successful candidate will have the ability to build strong, positive relationships with pupils and create an engaging learning environment that supports both academic progress and emotional development. - Plan and deliver engaging and adapted learning opportunities that meet the individual needs of children with SEMH
- Create a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment
- Support pupils to develop emotional regulation, resilience and positive attitudes
- Work collaboratively with Learning Support Assistants and pastoral staff
- Monitor and assess pupil progress and contribute to individual learning plans and EHCP reviews
- Build strong relationships with pupils, families and external professionals
Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) - Demonstrate proven experience in teaching pupils with additional needs, challenging behaviour, or SEMH
- Be patient, resilient and able to remain calm in challenging situations
- A deep understanding of Trauma Informed and Relational approaches
- Has the ability to build positive relationships with pupils who may be disengaged from education
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Be committed to inclusive education and supporting vulnerable learners
- Have experience working in a special school, PRU, alternative provision or school Inclusion base
- Have the ability to lead a team of SEMH Learning Support Assistants
- Be willing and able to deliver out-reach to support children with SEMH across the Trust and other schools
