Full Job Description

The SELnet and Automation Lead is a vital management role within the ICB's strategic commissioning directorate. The Client Groups and Community Based Care team within the ICB works on a multi-disciplinary team basis with core disciplines to deliver an effective end-to-end, integrated strategic commissioning function, covering contracting, performance and quality, finance, health informatics and medicines management expertise. The Post Holder will work as part of this multi-disciplinary team to support the use of SELnet and process automation as key tools for the strategic commissioning of primary and community care. This role reflects the ICB's new remit as a strategic commissioner with an aim to secure the best possible health outcomes for its local population through planning, purchasing, evaluation, integration and transformation of services, with a greater focus on prevention, personalised care and health inequalities, informed by clear intelligence and insights in relation to population and service provision, aligned to the NHS 10 Year Plan., Responsible for the ICB's automation programme, including identifying and leading the development of new automated processes across the ICB.

  • Responsible for the continued development of SELnet as a key ICB asset, this will including identifying and maximising opportunities for SELnet to contribute to the delivery of the ICB's core functions
  • Responsible for oversight and maintenance of SELnet including ensuring the SELnet primary care section is up to date at all times, uploading news items and adding new content and sections where required
  • Provide training to other teams in adding and updating content
  • Manage existing forums and develop new forums in accordance with business need
  • Provide governance and oversight of borough-based hub sites
  • Liaise with education and training providers, including the SEL Primary Care Academy to provide joint training and development in relation to primary care contracts
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, the post holder will contribute to an agreed set of priorities and a work programme for the strategic commissioning of primary and community care. This will include identifying ways that the use of SELnet, and the development of automated pathways can support this
  • Engage directly with providers in the use and development of SELnet
  • To contribute to the development of system operating plans for primary care and community services, and into other system plans (including delivery plans aligned to the 10YP).

In 2025, the boards of NHS South East London ICB and NHS South West London ICB took the decision to enter into a clustering arrangement. This means that we share a chair, chief executive officer and an executive team, but we remain as separate, statutory organisations.
  • This also means that the ICBs will share some teams, who will be working across both organisations. Some teams will also be working across both geographical areas and integrated care systems. This is a period of change for the NHS. The Government's 10 Year Health Plan presents an ambitious vision for a future NHS, with emphasis on the three 'shifts' - from hospital to community, from analogue to digital, and from cure to prevention - all underpinning the new neighbourhood health service.ICBs are also changing, with a clear focus on strategic commissioning and delivering neighbourhood working. This is an exciting time to work within our ICBs. We currently have the opportunity both to shape the future of our clustered organisations, and to be part of a radical transformation of care for the local people and communities across south London. And while our two ICBs are different in some ways, improving lives for the people we serve is at the core of what we are both here to do. Please note as you can only be employed by one ICB, this job description refers to 'the 'ICB', but your role may cover both ICB organisations, and / or geographical areas.
