Each doctor is expected to assist in the care of all patients in the Unit when required to do so. Duties include ward rounds, operating theatre sessions & administrative (dictation of summaries, letters, coding etc.) and presentations (M + M, MDT meetings etc.) The successful applicant will be expected to participate in most of the day-to-day activities of the department in co-operation with the rest of the surgical staffing. They will take part in the emergency surgical on call service at SHO level. The successful candidate is expected to participate in all the other on-going activities of the department including audit, research projects and toattend various departmental meetings and teaching sessions. The doctor accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriateconsultant in consultation where practicable with their colleagues both senior and junior. It has been agreed between the professions and the Department that while juniors accept that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of Statestresses that additional commitments arising under the sub-section are exceptional and in particular that juniors should not be required toundertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis. When undergraduate students are attached to the department, they will be involved in their training. They will also be involved in the supervisionand training of junior doctors within the hospital. It is also expected that the doctor will ensure that the discharge letters are completed in a timely fashion and accurate. To support the FY1's on the ward

• To be competent in history taking and examination.
• To be able to manage the acutely ill patient under supervision and guidance.
• To develop communication skills with colleagues, staff and patients as well as documentation.
• To be able to work as a member of a team and with other teams in a multi-disciplinary setting.
• To show professionalism during the delivery of the role that will support and enable good clinical care.
• To develop competency in the area of decision making and prioritising one's workload as well as demonstrating effective timemanagement.

The post would be ideally suited to a Senior House Officer looking to gain specialist General Surgery experience, and you would be expectedto participate in all the other on-going activities of the department including audit, research projects and to attend various departmental meetings and teaching sessions (MDTs, Audit meetings, M&M, ward, and formal teaching). Within the hours contracted, the successful candidate is expected to be flexible in the exact hours worked each day.
