This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in ecological consultancy, working on a wide range of projects across the UK. You will assist with the delivery of protected species and habitat surveys, working alongside experienced ecologists in a supportive and collaborative environment. The role is largely field-based, with opportunities to develop technical and consultancy skills. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with a range of protected species surveys (e.g. bats, great crested newts, reptiles, birds and mammals)
  • Support habitat surveys including UKHab / Phase 1 surveys and condition assessments
  • Collect accurate field data in accordance with established survey methodologies
  • Support Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) duties and site supervision where required
  • Assist with basic data entry, mapping and report preparation
  • Maintain and care for survey equipment
  • Follow health & safety procedures and ecological best practice

We are keen to hear from candidates who:
  • Have a degree (or are working towards one) in ecology or a related discipline
  • Have an interest in UK wildlife and ecological consultancy
  • Demonstrate good species identification skills (or a strong willingness to learn)
  • Are organised, reliable and able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Have good attention to detail and data recording skills
  • Essential Requirements
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasionally early mornings to meet survey requirements
  • A full, clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites and access to a vehicle
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather and terrain
  • Desirable (but not essential)
  • Previous experience of ecological surveys (academic or voluntary)
  • Knowledge of UK wildlife legislation
  • Experience with GIS or ecological data handling
  • Any protected species licences

SLR is a global leader in sustainability solutions, working with clients to help make sustainability happen, within a collaborative, people-first culture.
