Full Job Description

As a Scientific Operations Officer, your main duties will include:

Carry out assigned tasks in line with departmental objectives, escalating issues to management as required.

Operate, maintain, and assist with the routine repair of basic scientific equipment, ensuring a clean and safe working environment.

Apply technical knowledge and initiative to solve routine problems within the area of work.

Work effectively with staff and students, providing technical advice, inductions, training, and demonstrations as required.

Maintain accurate records of work using appropriate IT systems and support general administrative activities.

Assist with purchasing, goods receipting, and the distribution of goods, within approved financial limits.

Monitor facilities by reporting faults or damage to Estates, supporting weekly building checks, and assisting with manual handling duties.

Demonstrate ongoing professional development and contribute to continuous improvements in service delivery.

Carry out manual handling duties as required.

Health, Safety and Wellbeing responsibilities:

Assist with carrying out weekly building safety checks in area of responsibility

Understand, promote and apply safety documentation, ensuring that procedures are followed at all times.

These duties provide a framework for the role and should not be regarded as a definitive list. Other reasonable duties may be required consistent with the grade of the post.

Proven ability to manage workload effectively, use initiative, meet deadlines, and assess routine and non-routine problems by proposing appropriate solutions.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work reliably both independently and as part of a team, maintaining a positive, adaptable, and resilient approach.
