Are you passionate about science and committed to supporting young people to achieve their potential? Frewen College, a specialist independent school for pupils with dyslexia and co-occurring Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs), is seeking an enthusiastic and organised Science Technician to join our dedicated Science Department. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting the delivery of engaging and practical science lessons while contributing to a supportive and inclusive learning environment.About the Role As Science Technician, you will provide high-quality technical support across Biology, Chemistry and Physics. You will be responsible for preparing and maintaining equipment and materials for practical lessons, ensuring laboratories are safe and well organised, and supporting staff and pupils in practical science activities. Working closely with the Head of Science, you will help maintain high standards of health and safety, manage resources and stock, and provide in-class support where required.Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, set up and clear practical experiments and demonstrations.
  • Maintain laboratories, equipment and resources to a high standard.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, CLEAPSS guidance and COSHH requirements.
  • Assist with stock control, ordering and safe storage of chemicals and equipment.
  • Support teachers and pupils during practical activities.
  • Promote safe working practices and support inclusive access to science learning.
  • Maintain accurate records, inventories and departmental databases.
  • Support examination practicals and departmental administration.
  • About You We are looking for someone who:
  • Has experience working in a laboratory, educational or scientific environment.
  • Possesses strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Has a good understanding of health and safety procedures within a science setting.
  • Is confident using IT systems and maintaining accurate records.
  • Enjoys working collaboratively with staff and pupils.
  • Demonstrates patience, empathy and a commitment to supporting young people with dyslexia and related learning differences.
  • Is flexible, proactive and able to manage competing priorities.
  • Previous experience as a Science Technician is desirable, although candidates with relevant scientific knowledge and transferable skills are encouraged to apply.Working Hours
  • Term time: Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4.30pm (37.5 hours per week, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break)
  • Additional days: Up to 11 days during school holidays, including INSET days
