Full Job Description

Haybrook College Trust is seeking to recruit an energetic and inspiring Science Teacher for our KS4 Alternative Provision (Springboard), supporting pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties. A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the team of Haybrook College and make a real difference in the lives of Slough's most vulnerable young people. We nurture, engage and educate students who face barriers to learning by providing a range of high-quality educational programmes, helping to make positive changes in the lives of young people and ensuring the best possible educational outcomes. Our aim is to help our pupils to make positive behaviour choices and become independent learners with positive futures. Our KS4 Alternative Provision, Springboard, is an educational provision for pupils that have been permanently excluded or are at high risk of permanent exclusion from mainstream schools. With an average of 8 pupils in a class and a shorter, but much more intense teaching day, it gives you the time and ability to get to know the pupils in-depth and support their needs to secure the best possible personal and educational outcomes. The ideal candidate will be an experienced Science teacher with a passion for the subject and the ability to promote the love of learning within the Science curriculum. You will also have a passion for SEND and meeting the individual needs of pupils that have been through trauma and many adverse childhood experiences. As a teacher of Science, you will have knowledge of the relevant curriculum for KS3 and KS4, experience of teaching pupils with a range of vulnerabilities, challenging behaviour or SEND, and above all, have the desire and drive to see the most vulnerable young people in society succeed. You will be an energetic, highly resilient, and adaptable individual with excellent creativity and flexibility of thinking to ensure challenges are met and problems are solved. A high level of understanding of SEMH, SEND, safeguarding, equality, and fairness are as important as a good sense of humour, openness and compassion; all of which will be needed in these roles to support our young people through these challenging times. The ability to communicate effectively with parents and outside agencies is essential. About the role:

  • Working with your Head of Centre and teaching colleagues, you will provide vision and drive for your subject, which will inspire and motivate young people, staff and other members of the College community.
  • You will deliver your subject to ensure that all the young people you teach make progress academically, socially, and work towards becoming independent learners.
  • You will carry out the duties of this post in line with the remit outlined in the current School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document including the conditions of employment for teachers and the College policies.
  • The post is suitable for those with either a mainstream, Alternative Provision or Special School background, with a strong understanding of SEND and how to meet pupils' needs. The positions may suit a primary teacher with experience of working with upper KS2 pupils, looking to move into a secondary specialist setting. The post will be paid on the Main to Upper Teachers' pay scale with additional allowances for London Fringe and SEND. QTS preferred, but we will consider an ECT or experienced Unqualified Teacher, who demonstrates experience and passion for working with pupils with SEND. Working with young people with a range of SEND needs is not for everyone. It takes a special kind of person to give kindness and compassion to a complex and often challenging cohort of young people. We work hard to support our staff so they can do the best possible job and find that work life balance everyone deserves. We offer:
  • Excellent professional support from a welcoming wider team across the college
  • Regular line management support from a member of the senior leadership
  • Additional support from an experienced central team
  • Free access to Educational Support Partnership helpline
  • Highly valuable Continued Professional Development delivered by experts
  • A thorough induction package and training
  • Competitive salary
  • Access to Teachers Pension Scheme
  • Free flu vaccinations
  • Access to salary sacrifice schemes for cycles, ICT/Electronics and Ikea
  • Wellbeing days
  • Closing date: 9am, Friday 8 May 2026 with interviews in the week commencing 11 May 2026 Haybrook College Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people according to child protection and safeguarding guidelines. We expect all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment. This post is classed as having a high degree of contact with children or vulnerable adults and is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. All post holders are subject to necessary pre-employment checks, including a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check, including a Child/Adult's Barred List check (where applicable to the role in question). Shortlisted candidates will be subject to online searches for publicly available information. Haybrook College Trust is committed to creating a diverse workforce. We will consider all qualified applicants for employment without regard to sex, race, religion, belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, pregnancy, maternity, age, disability, marriage, or civil partnership.
