Full Job Description

Working closely with the business owner, you'll take projects from technical drawings through construction and installation. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building scenic structures, sets, furniture, props and installations
  • Planning materials, labour and workshop schedules
  • Reading drawings, plans and specifications accurately
  • Organising and maintaining a safe, efficient workshop
  • Operating and maintaining woodworking machinery and tools
  • Supporting and supervising freelance carpenters and workshop staff
  • Solving technical and construction challenges
  • Coordinating and assisting with on-site installations
  • Ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard

    We're looking for an experienced Scenic Carpenter / Workshop Manager who combines excellent practical skills with initiative, organisation and creative problem-solving. This is more than a carpentry role: you'll help run the workshop, lead project delivery and shape how the team grows., You'll be an experienced carpenter or fabricator, ideally from scenic construction, events, theatre, film, television or a related field. You'll also be:
  • Confident interpreting technical drawings
  • Skilled with woodworking machinery and hand tools
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of projects
  • Organised, proactive and solutions-focused
  • Able to manage others when required
  • Comfortable communicating with clients, contractors and production teams
  • Willing to travel and work both in the workshop and on site
  • Above all, you'll take pride in your craft and enjoy turning ambitious ideas into reality.

  • £34,000-£36,000 pro rata, plus paid overtime
  • Guaranteed part-time hours initially
